Located in the southeast of Calgary, Alberta, Shephard Energy is the largest natural gas-fired power plant in the province. It has a higher Maximum Capacity than any other generating asset listed by the AESO (868 MW). It is a newer facility; it was commissioned in 2015. This asset is fueled by natural gas (combined cycle). Two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) capture the waste heat from two gas turbine generators (GTGs); this waste heat then powers a single steam turbine generator (STG).
