Keephills #3 is jointly owned by Capital Power and TransAlta, and operated by TransAlta. KH3 was commissioned in 2011 and is located near Wabamun, Alberta. This is a newer coal power plant with advanced technologies to reduce emissions (SO2, NOx, mercury, and particulate emissions). It uses a high-efficiency steam turbine with supercritical boiler technology. The AESO-listed Maximum Capability (MC) for this asset is 466 MW.
Keephills #1 (KH1) and Keephills #2 (KH2) are separate AESO assets that also apply power to the Alberta grid.
